Gmund on the Tegernsee
Gmund a. Tegernsee is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach. It is located on the north shore of Lake Tegernsee, where the origin of the Mangfall is located. Since 1975, the community may call itself state-approved resort. In addition to the Tegernsee are also parts of the Mangfall and other streams in the municipality of Gmund. The brooks include the Festenbach (Moosbach), the Dürnbach, the Schwärzenbach and the Quirinbach, the Grambach the Jägerbächlein and the Gruber Bach.
Miesbach and Schliersee are about 10 km from Gmund, while Holzkirchen and Bad Tölz are both 15 km away. Rosenheim (38 km) and the city of Munich (46 km) are the nearest major centers of the municipality.
Gmund is conveniently located at the northern end of Tegernsee and right on the edge of the Alps. The town has its own train station with hourly connections to Munich on the railway line Schaftlach Tegernsee, which is served by the Bavarian Oberlandbahn.
With the neighboring communities Bad Wiessee, Tegernsee and Rottach-Egern there are also regular boat connections over the lake in addition to the usual bus connections (Tegernsee ring line).
